The hotel industry is a full and important sector of the economy. Current trends include a return to “holidays in Germany” and a growth in health and wellness tourism, city tourism, conference and congress visits, brand name hotels and facilities for “best agers”. These trends especially benefit cities like Munich. For example, the number of overnight stays in Bavaria rose by about 1 million in 2008 to 77 million. On the one hand this is highly positive, but on the other hand it leads to capacity shortages not only in the hotels, but also in the third party service providers used, for example cleaning companies, and this can lead to other consequences.

Problems and tasks arise in hotels which are not only varied in character, but which also regularly lead to legal challenges which are new and “different”, or even extraordinary. They may involve developing customised cooperation and operating concepts for individual hotels or a whole chain of hotels, drafting the necessary management, brand licence or takeover contracts or solving the everyday problems which can arise in the operation of a hotel. Legal expertise must be provided if jewellery is stolen from the hotel showcase, and the liability and employment law implications must be assessed from a legal perspective if foreign guests bring their own cook and this cook uses the hotel kitchen. SIBETH has the necessary knowledge of the industry and broad legal expertise to handle all of these legal questions to the full satisfaction of its clients.
